I titled this hexaptych Humanity and the Phenomena of Nature because the preservation of creation is intertwined, and one cannot properly function without the other.
Statement: Our first introduction into the world is through our mother’s watery womb, thus referencing the ocean in the photograph. As humans, our bodies are composed of 70% water. Water is an essential element of life, without which no being may survive. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the first and foremost basic human needs are the need for food, water, sleep, and warmth. The warm colours of the sunset echo emotional strength and inspire a feeling of optimism for the future.
Description: One Sunday afternoon, my daughter and I enjoyed a sunset at Sea Point, Cape Town, while I experimented with my camera settings. I deliberately did not look through the viewfinder because I didn’t want the people to feel self-conscious.
