My environment inspires my creative process. To give you a clearer picture of how I view the world and the visual aesthetic depicted through my work, it would help you to know about the three artists who have inspired me.

It began with Henri Matisse’s Red Interior: Still Life on a Blue Table, 1947. I love his radical use of colours and the intensity with which he used them. Colour has a way of capturing one’s imagination and has the effect of drawing one into the image to figure out what is implied.

Jackson Pollock is another artist who captured my imagination. His surrealist approach to the exploration of his unconscious spoke volumes to me. When I saw an original piece of his in the George Pompidou Centre, tears welled up in my eyes. It was as if I could feel the painting.

Amedeo Modigliani, whose formal works I first saw in the Musée de l’Orangerie, characterised by bold contours, long oval faces, and elongated bodies, mesmerised me. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen.

My creative process is intuitive, and the artistic expression with which I approach photography is to spark a continuing dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. I steer away from the stereotypical image capture, taking my inspiration from the master artists, as I seek to push the boundaries of photography both in-camera and in my editing processes.

The first endorsement I received for my work as a fine art photographer was the opening night of my Metamorphosis Exhibition at the Statuto13 Gallery in Milan in 2013. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I am an eternal optimist, and in light of the spirit behind the creation process, I hope the artwork will connect with you on a deeper level and inspire you.

Art Transcends All Language Barriers.

In September 2012, I took a six-month sabbatical to visit my family in Greece. That year I experienced winter for ten months consecutively. For those who don’t know me, winter is not my favorite season. It was a time of deep introspection. People I met along the way and travel adventures brought about a fresh perspective. The images captured resulted in the Metamorphosis series, leading to my first solo exhibition in Milan. This album contains some pieces created for the Metamorphosis, Fracture, and Soul Food exhibitions in Statuto13 Gallery, Milan 2013, 2104 & 2015.

Photography holds power. The act of taking a photo acts as a historical marker and a capture of time. Just as archaeologists offer hypotheses about ancient societies based on cave paintings, historians of the future will base their conjectures about us on the photography that is happening at this very moment, including yours.

As technology makes our world more interconnected, the act of creation has become a universal language and a vital conversation. Your photography, represented at the Fifth Annual Exposure Award reception is a thrilling contribution to that dialogue.

It’s been an honor to have your work included. Thank you for sharing your photography with us and with the world.

Sincerely,
William Etundi Jr. Signature

I worked as a Curator at several Niki’s exhibitions and I appreciated the choice of combining an abstract photography with futuristic features as much as spiritual and very introspective choice.
Congratulations, therefore, for the originalità and talent.
