Fracture Series
Synopsis
Back from my first solo exhibition in Milan, the “Fracture” series was born. It is focused on the fact that we have all suffered fractures and that living in denial about this is not an option because, without acceptance, there cannot be healing.
When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandise the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe when something’s damaged and has a history it becomes more beautiful.
In this series, I am exploring the idea that fracture is one of the most beautiful aspects of the human condition. The cracks are meant to cultivate an unbreakable strength and relentlessly uncompromising soul. This essentially equips us to find our unique gift and share it with the world!
The inception of this series commenced in July 2013 and continued through till December 2013.
Amorphous I

Anticipatory I
Statement: While we are working on embracing our flaws and imperfections we can celebrate the fact that we are becoming stronger and more beautiful. Look at and anticipate the emancipated proclamation of freedom from the fear of fracture.

Beauty in the Cracks
Statement: The Japanese philosophy on wabi-sabi, which is the beauty of things imperfect, has a place in our psychology. The relentless pursuit of perfection — in possessions, relationships, achievements – often fosters hasty judgments. This is where wabi-sabi invites a pause. It opens space for acceptance and forgiveness, for mindfulness, for seeing the beauty of things flawed, including ourselves and our fellow human beings.

Broken Light I
Statement: When the artificial light is off, true light can begin to flow unhindered through the cracks and remedy all the weak spots in the structure of your soul, caused by unattended corrosive entities.

Cease the Moment
Cease the Moment invites the viewer to pause — to linger in the stillness between movement and memory. Its abstraction reflects the fleeting, intangible essence of time, offering not a literal image, but an echo of presence that asks to be felt rather than defined.

Challenges Embraced
Statement: Embracing fractures is to understand, with enthusiasm, the creative incubation process of the masterpiece within.

Childlike
Statement: "An honest man is always a child." Socrates
Being honest with yourself is part of healing the cracks. A child is free to believe in the impossible because he has not yet been told that it is ridiculous. Confusion in a Smile
Statement: A smile confuses an approaching frown. This said, gratitude can be cultivated if the heart so desires, and with gratitude joy will follow.

Statement: Crucify the pain of the past and see it transform into a thing of beauty right before your eyes. This is living in the present, preparing for the future.

Defeat My Defeat
