Complementary schemes are created from colours, which are opposite each other on the colour wheel, and are often called direct complementary colours for this reason.

The harmony group shares some very special relationship qualities:

• One colour intensifies the other colour.

• They have the highest contrast, and the reason for this is they will always be made up of a warm and a cool colour.

• They are vibrant, lively, and dramatic.

• Complementary colours work best when one colour dominates, and the other serves as a contrast.

This modern interior is a good example of how the complementary colours, blue and orange, work well together. We decided to make orange the primary colour and use blue as the accent colour.
